Seasonal Smiles: 3 Reasons to Get Dental Implants This Summer

Summer has arrived, with soaring temperatures and long, bright days. With school out of session, there’s plenty of opportunity to take time off work to take a vacation or relax by the pool.

It may come as a surprise, but for those who have suffered tooth loss, this season can also be the perfect time to replace their missing teeth with dental implants! These restorations are unique in that they involve surgically placing a titanium pole directly into your jaw as an anchor. However, getting one takes multiple appointments over a period of time, making mid-year an ideal time to start the process.

Continue reading to learn 3 reasons why you should consider getting dental implants this summer!

Reason #1: More Flexible Schedules

When you were younger, you probably looked forward to summer break as the down time between one school year and another. Although you probably have more responsibilities as an adult, it’s still common to take time off work to travel or visit with family and friends. As a result, work schedules tend to be more relaxed during the months between spring and autumn.

That means there’s ample time for you to schedule any necessary medical appointments! For dental implants, you’ll need more than one. First, you must consult with your dentist and determine that you’re a good candidate for treatment. After that, you’ll have to have two different surgeries: one to place the titanium rod, which must heal over several months, and then another to attach the abutment that will eventually hold your dental crown. If you begin the process early this summer, you could have your final restoration in place before things pick back up again in the fall!

Reason #2: Extra Time to Relax

After your dental implant procedure, you’ll need to rest up so that your mouth can mend as quickly as possible without developing complications. That means you’ll need to avoid any physical activities that could elevate your heart rate or blood pressure, which can interfere with your recovery.

Because so many employees are already scheduling breaks, summertime is ideal for taking a few days off to relax at home without worrying that you’ll be reprimanded. You’ll be able to enjoy peace of mind that allows you to fully rest, knowing that you’re probably not missing much.

Reason #3: Dental Insurance Benefits

Dental implants tend to be more expensive initially than alternatives like dental bridges or dentures because of the surgical component. Fortunately, most dental insurance policies will cover some (though not usually all) of the cost. That said, there are often criteria that must be met before your plan kicks in. For example, there may be a waiting period that must pass before you can pursue certain procedures, and you’ll have to meet your annual deductible first.

You’re more likely to have reached these milestones by the middle of the year so that you can make the most of the benefits available to you.

As you can see, the dog days of summer can be the ideal time to initiate the dental implant process!
